A caring leader portrays empathy towards his employees. Such an empathetic leader can understand other people’s needs. Therefore, they can relate to others’ feelings and how they influence their perceptions. However, being a caring leader does not oblige you to agree with other people’s perceptions. Instead, it means you have the willingness and capacity to appreciate what other people are going through. Here are reasons why caring can make you a better leader.


Caring makes a leader offer the required support


Caring leaders are in a better position to offer the necessary support to their employees. Consequently, employees can achieve their goals. Besides, the employees build trust with caring leaders resulting in a strengthened working relationship, increased productivity, and enhanced collaboration. Contrarily, if an underperforming employee lacks the needed support, they digress further.


A caring leader can easily know the causes of poor performance


Caring can make you a better leader because when you understand the needs, feelings, and perceptions of the people under you, it is easier to know why they perform poorly. It is easier for you to solve your employee’s problem when you know its primary cause. For example, if the poor performance is linked to the family, you can recommend family therapy. Solving the root cause translates into a happy and emotionally healthy employee hence better performance.


Caring leadership boosts workers’ confidence


A caring leader makes employees retain their confidence and self-esteem even in the face of failure. This does not mean that caring leaders encourage failure. Regardless of how hard-working a person is, they are not immune to failure. However, the leader needs to be caring and avoid blaming his juniors so that a failure does not crush the worker’s self-esteem and confidence.


If a worker loses their self-esteem and confidence due to a failure, they may never recover. If they have to recover, they may need to undergo therapy sessions. This is costly in terms of time and money used to cater for the therapy sessions. Therefore, caring leaders are better than uncaring leaders because they understand the feelings and perception of workers, give the proper support, and helps to boost worker’s confidence amid failure. Additionally, caring leaders have stronger relationships with their employees, enhanced productivity and trust.
